40 Week Check In

So today is the day we have been counting down to since we first saw those two pink lines.  Today is our due date and, while it's pretty clear that baby will not be joining us today... it's still a very exciting milestone.  I can't believe we really made it to 40 weeks!!  Back in November it seemed like this day would never come... and now that it's here, it seems like time November 11th was just yesterday.  What happened?  Where did the time go?  As excited as I am to become a mom and to finally meet my little wiggle worm... I'm not sure that I am ready to not be pregnant any more.  :)  Ready or not though, this little one will be joining us very very soon!!  Eeeeeek!!!
How Big Is Baby?

  • So apparently, this is a jackfruit.  I really have no idea what a jackfruit is, or what it tastes like.... but I can tell you that it takes up an awful lot of room in my belly.  Cheers to my baby jackfruit!!
Baby’s Development
  • Baby will be here at any moment!
How Big Is Mommy?

  • Oh yes, ladies and gentlemen... that's right... 40 weeks pregnant and wearing- make that ROCKING- some super cute wedge heels.  Go me!!!
How Am I feeling?
  • Physically:  All things considered, I feel pretty darn good.  I haven't felt any contractions and, although several people have told me I look like I have "dropped" (and for each that has said I dropped, another has said that I am still carrying very high... lol)... I really haven't felt a thing.  Laying in bed isn't super comfortable, but I am so exhausted after a long day of work (yes, I am still working... go me again!!) that I usually have no probably falling right to sleep.
  • Emotionally:  I am so excited to meet this little one... but at the same time not ready to not be pregnant anymore.  What a twisted combination of emotions.  I can't believe how fast the time has flown by and I am doing my best to savor every last moment that I have left.  It's crazy to think that baby could be here any day!!
Any new developments, milestones?  Anything new?
  • My appointment last Thursday went really well.  I discussed by birth plan with my OB, we reviewed signs/symptoms of labor and what would happen if I went past my due date.  I am scheduled for my "post due" appointment tomorrow.
     Love/Hate:
    • Love:  The look on people's faces when they ask when I am due and I respond "today"... priceless!!!
    • Hate:  That the end of this amazing, emotional, exciting, terrifying pregnancy journey is almost over.  I wish I could hit pause for a few and just soak it all in.
Any upcoming developments, milestones?  What's next?
    • Next appointment is TOMORROW!!!  :)  I am scheduled for an ultrasound (to check size, position and fluid level), an internal check (to check dilation and effacement) and a Non-Stress Test (to check for contractions and make sure baby is handling everything ok).  Fingers crossed for a good appointment and the thumbs up to allow baby to keep cooking just one more week!!

    7.18.2012

    39 Week Check In

39 weeks!!  One week until our official due date, but (hopefully) 2 more weeks until baby's arrival.  Either way, we are so so SO close!!
    How Big Is Baby?

    • Watermelon!!  Schnikies!!!  That's humongous!!
    Baby’s Development
    • Baby will be able to flex his/her limbs at this point and his fingernails may extend past his/her fingertips..
    How Big Is Mommy?

    • I really don't feel like I have gotten all that much bigger, which is probably a good thing.
    How Am I feeling?
    • Physically:  The foot swelling and pain is out of control this week.  I have started wearing compression stockings to work every day (holy hotness, by the way)... but this swelling is relentless.  Back pain is also coming back with a vengeance, but then again I shouldn't expect to feel like a million bucks at 9 months pregnant, right?  In some ways I am glad that the end of this pregnancy is nearing because it is starting to take it's toll on my body....
    • Emotionally: ... but in other ways I am sad, scared, over-the-moon happy, excited, scared, nervous and umm... scared that we will have this baby in our arms SO SOON!!!  I mean... who approved this?  Lol.  I couldn't be happier to be {this close} to being a mommy... but then again... what the heck do I know about being a mom?  I am also still struggling with the bittersweetness of not feeling the baby in my belly any more.
Any new developments, milestones?  Anything new?
    • Nothing new really since last week.  I have felt a few random cramps and such, but no contractions to speak of.  Next appointment is tomorrow, so we will see what's cooking.  :)
    • We did get to attend a friend's baby shower this past Sunday.  They are due exactly one month to the day after us and it has been pretty cool to shares the ups and downs of pregnancy together.  The shower was a lot of fun.
     Love/Hate:
    • Love:  Frozen grapes are still my refreshing snack of the moment.  I bring a bag of grapes to work everyday and toss them in the freezer when I get there... then on my way home I have a nice cool snack!
    • Hate:  Still hating my fat elephant feet.
Any upcoming developments, milestones?  What's next?
    • Next appointment is TOMORROW!!!  :)

    7.11.2012

    38 Week Check In

38 weeks.... wowza!!!  The light at the end of this pregnancy tunnel is getting brighter and brighter.  So hard to believe that we are so close!

    How Big Is Baby?

    • A pumpkin!!  Wow!!  Can't believe how big baby is!
    Baby’s Development
    • At 38 weeks, baby’s probably sitting pretty low in my pelvis, which means s/he’s bumping into all kinds of nerves down there -- including some pretty sensitive ones I might not know I had.
    How Big Is Mommy?

    • Definitely feel like I am dropping now... little by little.
    • The picture on the right is Lucy and I goofing off... I decided I was going to hang out upside down with my legs crossed so baby stays put for an extra week.  Lucy decided to keep me company.  :)
    How Am I feeling?
    • Physically: Well... for the most part, pretty darn good.  I really shouldn't complain... however, my feet are starting to swell and ache, which is a real pain.  I should be thankful that I made it this long without any swelling or true aches and pains, but thinking about the next 2+ weeks like this is tough.  I can do it though.  :)
    • Emotionally:  So excited!  I am having dinner with some girlfriends tonight and I couldn't be more psyched to enjoy what will most likely be my last girls night out.
Any new developments, milestones?  Anything new?
    • I had an appointment today... which was pretty uneventful.  Because of my union's short term disability supplement (see developments below for details)... I am going to try to keep this baby in there until August 1st.  As such, I decided to not get an internal exam today.  I am kind of bummed because I am very curious if I am progressing toward labor, dilating or effaced... but it's not worth stirring things up if I can hang in there for a few more weeks.  Baby will be here soon enough one way or the other.
     Love/Hate:
    • Love:  Seltzer water has been particularly refreshing during this hot hot hot week.  I'm enjoying some raspberry lime flavored seltzer right now.  Yummy!
    • Hate:  Fat elephant feet.  Not awesome.
Any upcoming developments, milestones?  What's next?
    • Next appointment is next Thursday... it's hard to believe that baby could actually arrive before then.  Wow!!
    • So about my short term disability.  (anger stirs up inside and blood pressure begins to rise...)... I found out just this morning that because I transferred to a new union when I became an RN, I am not eligible to collect any union benefits- including the short term disability supplement that I have been paying for- until I have paid six full months of premiums.... in other words, August 1st.  Wouldn't it figure that it's one week PAST my due date??  Grr.  Lucking, I have statistics on my side and know that my chances of baby arriving late are pretty good.  A full week late... I'm not so sure... but I will do my best to keep him/her snug and cozy until then.  :)

    7.04.2012

    37 Week Check In

FULL TERM!!!  Wowee!!!  This means that baby can make their appearance, safely, any day now.  Any day... I can't believe we are here!!  This is just mind blowing.  Last night, I browsed through some of my older check-ins... (yes another teary-eyed moment of bitter sweetness)... I am so so happy and thankful to be here.  Next up... Baby time!!!

    How Big Is Baby?

    • Melon!!  Holy big baby!!  I can't believe I'm going to have to push something that size... never mind... I don't really want to think about it right now.  :?
    Baby’s Development
    • Around 37 weeks, many moms-to-be find themselves organizing cupboards and scrubbing their floors. That’s the nesting instinct kicking in as my body senses baby will be here shortly.
    • At this point, baby's organs and body systems are fully developed and ready for the real world...  baby is still growing though... gaining half an ounce a day!  Grow baby grow!
    How Big Is Mommy?
    • I think I may have started to drop, at least a little bit.  It's hard to tell from the pictures though because they all have a different background (note to self: next pregnancy, take weekly bump picture in the exact same place every week!).
    How Am I feeling?
    • Physically:  Great!  I can feel baby's position now and know that s/he is head down.  I feel lots of stretching and kicking up near my ribs (ouch!) and little squirmy hand movements down low.  I have also seen and felt hiccups and practice breathing.  Truly amazing.  Umm... as for me, my feet hurt like a sonofagun... but otherwise I am doing great.  Back pain seems to have lessened a bit, which is also worth celebrating.
    • Emotionally: In complete shock that we are full term.  I still don't think the whole baby-could-be-here-any-day has full sunk in yet, but we are just super excited.
Any new developments, milestones?  Anything new?
    • I had an appointment on Monday, which went well.  I had my GBS (Group B Strep) test done, which was no big deal.  I was hoping for an internal check, but it was still a little too early to start those... so next week.  The OB did say the baby was "way low!" and commended me on my ball bouncing.  :)  Guess it was worth it.  For now, I am to continue ball bouncing, walking, warm baths, RRL tea and EPO supplements.  Hopefully all of this hard work before will make labor a little smoother.
     Love/Hate:
    • Love:  Still obsessing over fresh cherries, frozen grapes and tomato/cucumber salad.  Nom Nom.  Oh... and Kevin and I made some turkey burgers the other night (note to self: must post recipe) that were to die for!!  My new favorite burger!!
    • Hate:  I might have to think for a little while on this one.  :)
Any upcoming developments, milestones?  What's next?
    • Next appointment is one week from today.  I will be 38 weeks and will hopefully get my first internal exam which should tell us if we are progressing toward labor.  :)  Oh my gosh... LABOR!!!  Yikes!!!

    6.27.2012

    36 Week Check In

One more week until full term... I have been bouncing on my birthing ball, logging lots of miles at work, drinking Red Raspberry Leaf Tea and taking Evening Primrose Oil supplements.  :)  I am doing everything I can to encourage this baby to do the opposite of mommy and make a timely arrival.  Care to take any bets on whether he/she will arrive socially early, right on time, or fashionably late?

    How Big Is Baby?

    • Cantalope, honeydew... melon of some sort, right?  Grow baby grow!!
    Baby’s Development
    • Baby is getting closer and closer to being able to breathe on his or her own.
    How Big Is Mommy?
    • I am still large and in charge... and someone actually told me they think I have dropped a little.  I don't know if this is true or not, but it sure made me feel good.
    How Am I feeling?
    • Physically:  Still going strong.  Like I said above, I have been walking a ton and bouncing on my ball for about an hour a night.  I'm doing what I can to stay in great shape to help make the birth and recovery as smooth as possible.
    • Emotionally: Really really happy.  I catch myself standing in the nursery staring off into space, daydreaming about how there will be a little one in here really soon.  So excited!!  (and still kinda sad about the end of the pregnancy... but very very happy regardless)
Any new developments, milestones?  Anything new?
    • Well I had an appointment on Friday... another boring quickie.... BUT... I did find out that baby is still head down (YAY!!!) although kind of high... hence all of the ball bouncing, walking, supplements, etc.   The OB is not concerned at all and thinks we can get baby headed south soon.  I still have plenty of time (4 weeks until my due date), but it's nice to talk about progress and have a goal to work towards for the next appointment.  I feel like I can do something proactive, instead of just sit around and wait, which is kind of cool.  Hoping for some progress by the next appointment.  Oh and also, the OB said she thinks the baby will be a little on the smaller side... which I am totally ok with as long as he/she is healthy.  I do love fat babies (chubby cheeks!!  Squeee!)... but I'm sure our little chunk muffin will... well... chunk up soon.
     Love/Hate:
    • Love:  Fresh cherries and frozen grapes... oh my goodness... I could make a meal out of them!  The cherries right now are super ripe and delicious... and frozen green grapes are super refreshing on a hot summer day.
    • Hate:  I'm really not loving meat lately.  Chicken ok... but beef and pork... meh.  I am no where near a vegetarian, by any means... but with the heat I just have no desire to eat anything hot really.  It's strange.  I swear I could live off of salads, fresh veggies and fresh fruit right now.  I have no doubt I will return to my meat and comfort food ways as soon as the weather cools off some.
Any upcoming developments, milestones?  What's next?
    • Next appointment is Friday!!  I know it will be just another boring quickie.... but I think it's my last boring quickie... which is awesome.  After that.... GBS test and the internal checks begin.  The end is so so so close!!
    • Next milestone will be 37 weeks...  FULL TERM!! Can't believe it 's next week already!  WOW!!

    6.20.2012

    35 Week Check In

35/35!!!  Wowza!!!  I am 35 weeks pregnant today and have (give or take, of course) 35 days to go!!!  This is our last major milestone before full term.  I can't believe it!!

    How Big Is Baby?

    • I *think* this is a coconut... or a bowling ball.  A coconut seems pretty small, so I am going with a bowling ball.
    Baby’s Development
    • I’ve reached 35 weeks, and my uterus has grown about 1,000 times its original size, a number that might sound exaggerated to everyone else -- but to me it probably feels more like a million.
    How Big Is Mommy?

    • This week, I ate a basketball!  Seriously!  It almost looks fake, doesn't it  I am so proud of this little bump I have grown... and so so in love with the wiggly little karate kid filling it.  :)
    How Am I feeling?
    • Physically:  Still great!  I am so very blessed to have enjoyed a pretty smooth sailing (so far, knock on wood) third trimester.  Aside from some back pain at night, I feel excellent!  Hope this keeps up!
    • Emotionally:  It is really starting to sink in that the end of this pregnancy is nearing... and that is so bittersweet.  I longed so badly to be pregnant... then the first half of the pregnancy was so miserable I just couldn't wait to get it over with and have my baby in my arms.  Now I am really enjoying being pregnant and feeling the baby move inside of me... I am kind of sad that it will be over so soon and I will have to share him/her with the rest of the world.  While, of course, I can't wait to meet him/her and enjoy my newborn... I am really going to savor these last few weeks, since I'm sure they will fly right by in a flash.
Any new developments, milestones?  Anything new?
    • 35/35 today!!!  Like I said above, this is one of the last few big milestones... :)
     Love/Hate:
    • Love:  Tomato/cucumber salad.  I don't know if I've said that before, but I love love love it!!
    • Hate:  Back pain.  Bleh.  So so annoying.  I feel great all day at work (which is good that I can make it through a tough work day without issue)... but I am D-U-N when I get home.  I wish I felt better in the afternoons so I can enjoy my time with the hubs instead of laying on the heating pad and BioFreezing myself to oblivion (by the way, LOVE BioFreeze... it really does help).  For a healthy baby, though, bring on the back pain.  Heck... I've only got a few weeks left anyway, right?
Any upcoming developments, milestones?  What's next?
    • Next appointment is Friday!!  I know it will be just another boring quickie.... but I think it's my last boring quickie... which is awesome.  After that.... GBS test and the internal checks begin.  The end is so so so close!!
    • Next milestone will be 37 weeks...  FULL TERM!!  Wow!!

    6.13.2012

    34 Week Check In

34 weeks... wow... just wow!!!  Baby is growing big and healthy and strong and we just can't possibly wait to meet him/her... although we will patient wait at least 3 more weeks... to full term.  :)
This update is from Sunny South Carolina, by the way.  I survived the 13 hour car ride down here and we are super excited for Chad's (brother-in-law) graduation from Army Basic Training tomorrow.  The trip down was actually a lot of fun... I always enjoy road trips with the hubby.  And... even better... on our way back, we should be able to squeeze in some beach time!!  Yippeeee!!!

    How Big Is Baby?

    • Holy big baby!!  Over 4 pounds now and 17-18 inches long!  :)  Keep on growing baby, we're almost there!
    Baby’s Development
    • At 34 weeks, I might breathe a little easier, since baby may descend lower into my pelvis and give my lungs some space. (Ahh!) The pitfall of this descent, of course, is even more pressure on my bladder, so be prepared to make even more trips to the ladies room over the coming weeks
    How Big Is Mommy?

    • Today was family day, so Chad gave us a tour of the base and we snapped this picture!  Kevin's hand is kind of in the way, but my baby belly is still pretty large and in charge.  :)
    How Am I feeling?
    • Physically:  Great!  I was really surprised at how well I handled the car ride.  We did stop about every hour or so for me to pee, but my back did pretty good, so I will call it a win!!
    • Emotionally:  Excellent.  Seriously, never better.  It is so refreshing to be off work, out of the house and just relaxing for a few days.  I will admit though, that when we dropped Lucy off at the vet yesterday for boarding, I cried like a baby in the parking lot.  I can't entirely blame pregnancy hormones, because she is my little girl and I probably would have shed a few tears regardless.... but it was full on ugly cry.  I miss her TONS!!!  This also kind of makes me nervous to leave the baby anywhere and makes me think I will never ever be able to enjoy an adult vacation again.  Guess we'll see.
Any new developments, milestones?  Anything new?
    • My appointment last Thursday was another quickie.  I did learn that baby is definitely head down (woohoo!!!) but still pretty high.  I'm excited that we are facing the right direction... now it's time to kick up the Red Raspberry Leaf Tea and get him/her to start heading south.  It's almost showtime.  Other than that, an uneventful appointment... which is a good thing.
     Love/Hate:
    • Love: The south.  Love everything about the south... the food (we started out day with biscuits and gravy... hello?!?!  Doesn't get any better than that!), the slow southern drawl, the sweet tea, the weather... everything.  I love love love it and can't wait to move back south... one of these days.
    • Hate:  Hmm... this is a tough one.  I'm in such an awesome mood right now it's hard for me to think of something I hate this week.  Maybe it will come to me... but for now, I am just loving life.  Vacation kind of has that effect on people, I think.  :)
Any upcoming developments, milestones?  What's next?
    • Next milestone is next week 35/35... and the last milestone before full term.  Wow.  The end is so so close!!
    • Next appointment will be Friday the 22nd.  I think that may be my last 2 week appointment... after that it will be every week until baby comes.  Eeek!!!

    6.06.2012

    33 Week Check In

It's so hard to believe that the end of this pregnancy is so very close!!  While I am very much looking forward to meeting this little one and joining the ranks of motherhood... I am also trying to savor every moment that I have left feeling the baby kick, wiggle and squirm in my belly.

    How Big Is Baby?

    • Honestly... I'm not really even sure what exactly this is... lol... but it's crazy to think that baby is over 4 pounds now!!
    Baby’s Development
    • Baby's keeping his/her eyes open while awake. S/he's also starting to coordinate breathing with sucking and swallowing.
    How Big Is Mommy?

    • This is from Sunday on our way back from Pittsburgh.  I have been DYING for a Sonic Ocean Water slushie and was super happy to be able to enjoy one this past weekend.  It was delicious!!

    How Am I feeling?
    • Physically:  Pretty good.  I was nervous about the 6 hour trip and how my back would handle it, but it went pretty good.  We got out to stretch (and for me to pee) a few times and it was a breeze.  I am still surprised at how comfortable I am for 33 weeks pregnant.
    • Emotionally:  Great!  Every day this gets a little more real... between setting up meetings with a potential day care and pediatrician and shopping like a maniac with soon-to-be Grandma... I am just thrilled to be where I am and excited to experience what lies ahead.
Any new developments, milestones?  Anything new?
    • No appointment updates this week, but we did drive to Pittsburgh to spend a short weekend with Kevin's parents.  MIL was a shopping machine and hit Babies-R-Us like it was her job.  She printed out our registry and zoomed up and down every.single.aisle filling her cart like she was a contestant on Supermarket Sweep (remember that show?  I used to LOVE that show!).  Anyway... she basically threw us a shower, by herself.  We couldn't be more grateful.  The nursery is stocked full of every possible necessity and luxury our baby could possibly need.  We are very very lucky!!
     Love/Hate:
    • Love: Cucumber tomato salad.  LOVE it.  I have eaten it almost every day this past week.  I make it myself, super simple... chopped tomato, cucumber, thinly sliced onions, fresh basil, a little olive oil and vinegar and some Italian spices.  Nom Nom Nom.
    • Hate:  That we don't have Sheetz or Sonic in Syracuse.  I got to enjoy a few Sheetz smoothies (cake batter... YUM!) and a gimongous Sonic Ocean Water slushie on our road trip this past weekend... and I would sooooo love to be able to enjoy them more often.
Any upcoming developments, milestones?  What's next?
    • Next OB appointment is tomorrow.  From what I understand, this should be another quickie, but a chance to check up on little one, nonetheless.
    • Next week we will be driving down to South Carolina to watch Kevin's brother graduate from Army boot camp.  It seems like I am spending some serious quality time the passenger seat of our car these days.  Anyway, we are soooo proud of Chad and can't wait to see him in uniform.  And bonus... this beach bum gets a chance to enjoy her mostest favoritest place in the world... the BEACH!!!  Woot woot!!!  Can't wait!

    5.30.2012

    32 Week Check In

32 weeks and growing growing growing!!!  Baby is getting stronger every day (my poor ribs have been getting the brunt of baby's workouts lately) and my belly is getting bigger by the moment!  I actually had someone at work last week tell me about 1/2 way through the shift that I looked bigger than when we started!  Yikes!!  We now have less than 2 months to go before we get to meet our new little Mr. or Miss... so excited!!

    How Big Is Baby?

    • A squash and approaching 4 pounds.  Wowza!
    Baby’s Development
    • Baby may have turned so s/he’s in the head-down position by now, poised for the trip down the birth canal. And I may have noticed your nipples looking darker. That’s so a preemie can see them for breastfeeding -- isn't the human body so amazing?
    How Big Is Mommy?
    •  These pictures are from Monday, when Kevin and I went out to dinner to celebrate our first wedding anniversary.  :)

    How Am I feeling?
    • Physically:  Still having back issues, but they seem to be calming down a tiny bit.  I have a chiropractor appointment tomorrow, so we'll see if that helps.  I have noticed that I am much more sensitive to the heat.  I grew up in Florida- a total beach bum- and you couldn't possibly make it hot enough to bother me.  Now I find myself heading inside and hunting for cool air after only a few minutes of playing in the yard with Lucy.  It's pretty crazy.
    • Emotionally:  Wonderful, although I was pretty darn emotional on Monday.  It was very powerful to reflect on the first year of marriage with my amazing husband, all that we have accomplished, all that we have been through, and all that we have to look forward to.  I found myself tearing up (ok bawling, but don't tell anyone) more than once.  We are so truly blessed and, although I do know this and thank God for my blessings on a daily basis, sometimes when you hit a certain milestone you really open your eyes to see the full picture.
Any new developments, milestones?  Anything new?
    • Appointment went well last Thursday.  I can't believe we are down to appointments every two weeks!  And soon, every week!  Yikes!  I have been cleared to travel to Pittsburgh and to South Carolina (although I think my OB thinks I am a crazy person for wanting to spend 12+ hours in a car at this point).  The NP (who I totally believe knows the gender) was toying with us a bit.  She asked if we had any guesses, then as we listened to the heartbeat (LOVE that sound), she said "Oh I don't know... it's right in the middle... could go either way."  :)  I know they know... but it's really cool of them to build up the surprise.
     Love/Hate:
    • Love: Water!  Water water water water water.  To drink, to put my feet in (Lucy has a kiddie pool that I borrow... she doesn't mind).  If only I had water to swim in, I would be one fat and happy pregnant lady.  Hopefully we will get to enjoy a pool this weekend, then when we go down to South Carolina, I am FINDING some water to lay in... all.day.long.  I am going to beach myself like a belluga whale and everyone else can go do what they do.  :)  I love water.
    • Hate:  That I am seriously becoming a wimp in the heat.  It's not like me and I don't like it.  I don't want to say I hate the hot weather... because I don't.  I wait all year for this stuff... but right now I hate that I don't love it like I used to.  Perhaps it's all of this extra weight I am lugging around these days.
Any upcoming developments, milestones?  What's next?
    • Next OB appointment is next week.
    • Visiting the in-laws this weekend.  Although I am less than thrilled about spending 6 hours in a car, to spend one day with them... I'm hoping it will be a good trip regardless.

    5.23.2012

    31 Week Check In

We are just moving right along...

    How Big Is Baby?

    • Pineapple... mmm.... I love pineapples!!!
    Baby’s Development
    • At 31 weeks, all of baby's five senses are working. Plus, s/he's going through major brain and nerve development
    How Big Is Mommy?

    •  Aaaah!!  Bare belly picture!!  This is Lucy and I just relaxing by her pool and me enjoying some yummy watermelon (yes, eating a half a watermelon, by myself, like it was a single slice) while Lucy begs.

    How Am I feeling?
    • Physically: Doing pretty good.  I feel like I've hit my stride and am getting used to maneuvering this big old belly around... although I still bump into random objects from time to time when I forget just how big I'm getting.
    • Emotionally:  Great!  Baby is healthy, mommy is healthy and the end of this pregnancy road is drawing near.  As excited as I am to meet our little one, there are times where I actually think (believe it or not) that I might miss being pregnant.
Any new developments, milestones?  Anything new?
    • Next appointment is tomorrow... not much else is new.
     Love/Hate:
    • Love: Watermelon.  Nom Nom Nom (hence the picture of me grubbing down on half a watermelon.  I swear I could eat a whole watermelon every.single.day.
    • Hate:  That I feel pretty good all day at work, then my back acts up when I get home.  I wish I could enjoy my time at home a little more (and maybe clean/accomplish a little more around the house)
Any upcoming developments, milestones?  What's next?
    • OB appointment tomorrow!!  :)
    • We are calling around to set up a consultation with a pediatrician in the next few weeks (wow!!  Can't believe we are at this point) and getting ready to take our baptism class.  It's getting really really real!!
    • In non-baby news, Kevin and I are celebrating our first wedding anniversary on Monday!!!  <3

    30 Week Check In

We are 3/4 baked!  Holy cow!!!  I can't believe that my countdown is in the single digits for weeks... it's amazing.  I remember when I was counting down for my wedding and how exciting it was to have "less than 10" to go.  Next up will be 35/35... then it's the home stretch.  I am so thrilled to have made it this far and so excited to know that in a few short weeks I will be holding my little baby boy or girl.

    • A cucumber long and well over 3 pounds now.
    Baby’s Development
    • 30 weeks, s/he’s not just moving a lot, s/he’s also plumping up. And as s/he continues to put pressure on my digestive system, I'm going to feel the effects: hemorrhoids (lovely), heartburn, pelvic pain and frequent urination are all common at this stage in the game.

    •  This is from this past Sunday, Mother's Day.  I will try to upload a new one soon.  :)
    How Am I feeling?
    • Physically:  Back is killllllling me now.  The chiropractor appointment was a quick fix, but wore off just as fast.  I am trying to remember to be more diligent with my stretching... yeah... not doing such a great job so far, but I'll get around to it.
    • Emotionally:  Great.  We have made a ton of progress with preparation and the nursery and I am starting to feel *ready*... although I'm sure that is subject to change and I anticipate a few more freak outs before baby arrives.  Otherwise, I am enjoying being pregnant... I know that despite all of the aches and pains, I will miss feeling this baby moving and groving in my belly.
Any new developments, milestones?  Anything new?
    • Appointment went well last Thursday.  I was told that I need to gain more weight (just in case you don't remember, 2 months ago I was told to gain more weight... last month I was told to slow down on the weight gain... now we are back to gain more weight)... it's enough to drive me crazy.  Aside from my over/under weight gain (pffffff) everything else looks great.  I am now down to appointments every 2 weeks instead of every 4... exciting and nerve wracking all at once.  I'm kind of curious whether I will get to have another ultrasound, but every time I go in, I forget to ask.
    • My in-laws surprised Kevin and I by buying several things off our registry.  We now have a pack-and-play set up, a mattress for our crib and a recliner waiting to be picked up at BRU.  The nursery is filling up fast.  We are so truly blessed to have such wonderful, generous family and friends.
     Love/Hate:
    • Love: I had a bit of an obsession with Olive Garden bread sticks this week.  On my way into work Monday, I called and ordered some to pick up... and by some I mean 2 dozen... and (of course) a pint of alfredo sauce.  I honestly had no intention of sharing.  I ended up eating bread sticks for 3 days and now I could care less if I ever see another bread stick in my life.  They were, however, absolutely delicious and everything I hoped they would be at the moment.  Satisfying a craving is a pretty rewarding feeling.  lol
    • Hate:  Back pain... still.  Yep.  Still hate it.
Any upcoming developments, milestones?  What's next?
    • Next OB appointment is next week.
    • My mom might actually be coming up to visit this weekend, which would be so awesome!!  I won't know until tomorrow whether she will be able to catch a flight, but I am keeping my fingers crossed!  If she comes up, I am going to try to sneak in for a quick 3D ultrasound... we'll see.

    29 Week Check In

There is no hiding this bump now.  :)  Which is fine by me.  I can't believe next week, I will be 3/4 baked.  I told Kevin if the baby were cookies, it would be totally edible by this point, because I love my cookies still ooey gooey in the middle.  Good thing it's not a cookie... I want this little one to keep baking for a few more months so s/he is nice and healthy.

    How Big Is Baby?

    • A squash... and 3 pounds now!  Wow!!
    Baby’s Development
    • At 29 weeks, s/he’s not just moving a lot, s/he’s also plumping up. And as s/he continues to put pressure on my digestive system, you’re going to feel the effects: hemorrhoids (cute, eh?), heartburn, pelvic pain and frequent urination are all common at this stage in the game.
    How Big Is Mommy?
    •  This is from the weekend... I'll get around to adding a new one as soon as I decide I am camera ready... which... considering I jumped into some jammies the second I got home, will likely not be until tomorrow.
    How Am I feeling?
    • Physically:  My back is really starting to hurt.  I am finding that any position- sitting, standing or lying down- for long periods of time is getting to be painful.  I'm worried to think that I still have 11 weeks left and my belly is only going to get bigger.  Thank goodness I have a chiropractor appointment scheduled for tomorrow.
    • Emotionally:  Good.  I have been getting compliments left and right and have been told numerous times that I have that "glow"... which is a huge self esteem boost.  I have also been feeling baby move often and s/he even seems to respond to touch and the sound of my voice, which makes me feel even more attached.  I'm really loving this stage.
Any new developments, milestones?  Anything new?
    • Still nothing new to report, but I do have an appointment tomorrow.
     Love/Hate:
    • Love: Starbucks Frappucino Happy Hour.  Today I created a green tea coconut frap and it was uh-may-zing!!
    • Hate:  Back pain.  I have mild scoliosis and I think my 8 years in the Marine Corps really did a number on my back.  I know back pain is normal with pregnancy, but I was afraid that, given my history, I would be in real trouble in this department.  Luckily up until the past week or so, it hasn't been a huge issue, but it is definitely starting to kick in.  I have seen a chiropractor for years (actually worked for one for almost 2 years previously) and I'm not sure that my monthly visits will cut it anymore.  I think I might have to talk to the doctor about increasing it to every 2 weeks.  :(
Any upcoming developments, milestones?  What's next?
    • I have my next OB check up tomorrow and a visit with the chiropractor.  I'm not really sure what is on the agenda for the OB appointment, but I am praying that it doesn't include another fat talk.
    • Our Amazon registry is complete, which is a huge sigh of relief.  We have been having issues with both Target and Babies R Us online (which is easiest for us to manage) so those still need some work, but 1/3 is pretty good... right?  Ok yeah... I need to work a little harder on that I guess.  :)

    28 Week Check In

I am definitely showing now and we are in full baby preparation mode.  The crib is up, the stroller and car seat are here... now it's just the finishing touches and wait wait wait for our little one's arrival.

    How Big Is Baby?

    • An eggplant, growing big and healthy!
    Baby’s Development
    • At 28 weeks, baby is breathing (it’s amniotic fluid, not air, but it still counts) and even showing brain activity.  There are some studies that show baby may even be able to dream at this stage.

    •  Lucy just loves showing off for the weekly baby bump picture.  She is a total ham.
    How Am I feeling?
    • Physically:  The backaches are beginning and can be difficult to get relief from.  I have a Chiropractor appointment next week and I can't wait.  Other than that, feeling great!
    • Emotionally:  Wonderful!  The crib is up, the stroller and car seat are here and we are just moving right along.  Also, the weather is finally improving (70 degrees today!!) which does wonders for my state of mind.
Any new developments, milestones?  Anything new?
    • Not much new this week.  Baby is growing, mommy is growing... we are just chugging along.  Next appointment is next Thursday.
     Love/Hate:
    • Love:  I am on an Uncrustable sandwich kick.  You know... the little kid peanut butter and jelly sammies without the crust.  They are sooo yummy and the perfect snack at 4am.  :)
    • Hate:  Still not loving the peeing every hour thing.  I swear last night, I went to the bathroom, did my business, stood up and instantly just sat back down because I had to pee...  then when I was done with round two, I got back into bed and as soon as I laid down, I had to pee... AGAIN!  It's pretty ridiculous.
Any upcoming developments, milestones?  What's next?
    • We really need to get our registry finalized and set up a trip to visit Kevin's family.  It's tough because we only have every 6th weekend off together, but we know we want to make it down there to celebrate with them before baby arrives.
    • Next appointment is next Thursday... so not much new in that department yet.  Ill be sure to keep everyone updated.

And I'll close with a super cute picture of my little Lucy girl snuggling with baby.  About 5 seconds after I snapped this shot, she was sound asleep.  She's going to be such an awesome Big Sister/Puppy.  :)

    27 Week Check In

… and we are officially in the third trimester... the home stretch!!!  I honestly am in awe of how fast the time has flown by.  I know I keep saying this week after week, but it just blows my mind.  In just 3 short months, God willing, I will be holding our new son or daughter.  Truly amazing.

    •  Here is my "Oh my gosh I'm in my third trimester" bump and Lucy with her new favorite pillow, Toby the Turtle... and a sneak peek of our nursery.
    How Am I feeling?
    • Physically:  Still pretty good.  Feeling lots and lots of kicks, jabs and rolls... which is so cool.  I can see movement very easily from the outside and it looks like there is an alien in my belly.  Too funny.  I have joined the pee-every-hour club... which is not something I planned to do quite this soon... but it's still better than the morning sickness was, so I'll take it!
    • Emotionally:  Really good.  The crib should be here any day now... my mom ordered the stroller and car seat... so I feel like we are really making some progress in the getting-ready department, which makes me very happy.
Any new developments, milestones?  Anything new?
    • Third trimester is a pretty big milestone!!  Baby's lungs are almost fully developed which means a small sigh of relief from me.  I am thrilled to be where I am and healthy and doing well.  Still working my normal schedule and doing all of my normal activities (even running when the weather is right).  I'm very very blessed.
     Love/Hate:
    • Love:  I have been on a BLT kick again.  Not the healthiest, but they are so delicious... and Kevin has been spoiling me with them left and right.  Still loving fresh fruit, veggies, salads and smoothies... so hopefully that balances out the bacon.  :/
    • Hate:  Peeing every hour.  It kind of puts a damper on my work schedule and  digs into my sleep.  Although at this point, I think it's a catch 22.  Either baby is low and on my bladder... or baby is high and smushing my lungs.  Either way, as long as baby is happy, mommy can deal.
Any upcoming developments, milestones?  What's next?
    • Next appointment isn't for 2 more weeks... just waiting until then.  My mom may come up to visit in the next few weeks and I am thinking about scheduling an elective 3D ultrasound if she does.  Not sure though...
    • Still waiting for our nursery goodies to start arriving.  All of the painting is done, most of the decor is up... but it just doesn't look like a nursery without a crib.
